Uncle Charged After Breaking Nephew’s Arm

A man who allegedly beat his 12-year-old nephew with a bamboo pole so hard that he broke the boy’s arm was charged with intentional violence with aggravating circumstances on Sunday at the Banteay Meanchey Provincial Court, officials said.

Prum Pheng, chief of the provincial military police’s judicial investigation department, said Luos Samorn, 67, was arrested on Saturday morning in Serei Saophoan City after a neighbor reported on Friday that he had heard the boy crying in pain from inside the house the night before.

“The man living next door heard him beating the boy and the boy’s cries, and he even shouted for the suspect to stop, but he didn’t listen and continued,” Mr. Pheng said.

When police came to the house to arrest the uncle, they found the boy with a broken arm and severe bruising and brought him to a nearby hospital for treatment, Mr. Pheng said.

He added that the boy, who had been living with his mother’s sister and her husband for about seven months, was staying at the provincial military police headquarters until contact could be made with his parents—both currently working in Thailand.
