Toddler Found Allegedly Murdered in Kampot

A 3-year-old boy was allegedly suffocated by his uncle on Wednesday morning in Kampot province’s Angkor Chey district, a police official said on Thursday.

The boy’s autopsy showed a bruise on his lower right cheek and scratch marks under his stomach, said Sao Samoeun, deputy provincial police chief, who asked a reporter not to be named in The Cambodia Daily.

Mr. Samoeun added that it was unlikely that the boy, Thet Tich, had been sexually assaulted before being killed.

Thet Tich was staying with his aunt at the time of his death, having lived there since his parents emigrated to work in Thailand, but Mr. Samoeun said police did not know exactly when the parents had left.

The suspect, Trok Ra, fled the scene of the crime and remains at large, the chief said.

There are no leads on his location, “but police are still continuing their investigation,” he said.
