About Us

Our Mission

The Cambodia Daily is dedicated to pursuing and promoting a free, fair, and independent press in Cambodia. Our mission is to provide accurate, unbiased, and impactful news and information to the Cambodian public and the international community. In a landscape where independent media faces repression and challenges, we uphold the highest journalistic standards of truth, integrity, and ethical reporting. We strive to be a voice for the voiceless, a platform for diverse perspectives, and a catalyst for positive change. Our work aims to empower citizens, foster democratic engagement, and create a more transparent, accountable, and just society.

Our News Service

The Cambodia Daily is at the forefront of broadcasting uncompromising, factual news while fostering inclusive public dialogue in Cambodia. Our multimedia channels include our website, Facebook, YouTube, Telegram, Spotify, Google Podcast, Apple Podcast, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter). We deliver objective news coverage to inform and engage our audience. With over 90 percent of our content in the Khmer language, we are proud to consistently reach nearly two million viewers and listeners throughout Cambodia, reflecting our deep connection with the community we serve.

Our live Khmer & English language talk show, Idea Talk, is a dynamic platform for in-depth discussions on pressing issues affecting Cambodians at home and abroad. We deliberately spotlight the underrepresented voices and minority perspectives, reinforcing our belief that a true democracy thrives on the diversity of its dialogue. Idea Talk is not just a show; it’s our commitment to amplify the diverse voices of Cambodia, ensuring that every opinion contributes to our shared path toward a more informed, inclusive society.

In addition to our Khmer content, The Cambodia Daily caters to English-speaking audiences. We compile and distribute a comprehensive weekly newsletter, The Weekly Dispatch, summarizing the key news stories from Cambodia.

Our History

The Cambodia Daily was founded in 1993 by the late Bernard Krisher (August 9, 1931- March 5, 2019), a retired American journalist deeply committed to human rights and democracy. Krisher, who escaped the horrors of the Nazi Holocaust, recognized the importance of supporting Cambodia’s recovery after years of turmoil and strife, including the Vietnam War’s bombings and the Khmer Rouge’s reign. He started the paper at a hopeful time when Prince Sihanouk returned to help heal the nation following the Paris Peace Accords.

However, in 2017, The Cambodia Daily faced the harsh reality of the Cambodian government’s crackdown on independent media, which led to the closure of many voices, including The Cambodia Daily.

Undeterred, The Cambodia Daily picked up the pieces and moved its headquarters to the United States, shifting to a digital-only format to keep Cambodians informed. We provide our content for free because everyone deserves access to news, regardless of their financial situation. This is made possible by the generous support of donors who believe in our cause. If you value what we do, please consider contributing to help keep The Cambodia Daily going.

The Cambodia Daily, now under the ownership of Cambodia Daily LLC, a US-based company, continues to uphold the legacy and mission of its predecessor. Operating out of Washington DC, a dedicated team of Cambodians and Cambodian-Americans manages this new iteration of the Cambodia Daily. The Cambodia Daily LLC is distinct and not affiliated with the original Cambodia Daily newspaper company in Phnom Penh, which ceased its operations in September 2017. Despite the change in ownership and location, the core values and journalistic principles of the original Cambodia Daily remain at the heart of our organization.
