The Sam Rainsy Party claims an activist was shot dead in Pursat province Saturday, marking the fifth alleged opposition slaying last week.
Ben Yeurn, 33, was killed Saturday after being invited hunting with the deputy chief of Ra Thmei village in Krakor district, the party reported Wednesday.
Police and Interior Ministry officials could not be reached for comment Wednesday to confirm the death. A Sam Rainsy Party aide reached Wednesday evening said further details were unavailable on the killing.
Meanwhile, Kratie Governor Nou Phoeung reported Wednesday that the son of a Thma Andauk commune official is suspected in the Saturday shooting death of Funcinpec activist Chroek Hoeun, 46.
The commune official, Veng Thong, is a former CPP member who recently switched to Funcinpec, Nou Phoeung said. Police are investigating and the provincial and communal election commissions have been notified, he said. Personal dispute is suspected as a motive, Nou Phoeung said, although details are unclear.
Battambang police have not confirmed the reported July 14 killing of Sam Rainsy Party recruiter Reth Savoeun.
And Siem Reap police are saying the July 16 shooting death of Lith Preah, 60, and the July 14 shooting death of Nhiek Sivorn, 45, are related to their activities as a “witch,” or traditional medicine doctor.
