Four Killed in Two Separate Truck Accidents

Three people were killed and another six injured when a truck transporting wooden planks, as well as passengers, overturned Wednesday in Kratie province’s Snuol district, police said.

“The truck was carrying wooden planks and people were perched on top of them,” said Chan Sokim, district police chief.

“The front right tire blew out, causing the truck driver to lose control of the vehicle, which overturned and killed and injured workers,” he added.

Mr. Sokim said he did not have the names of the people who had died, but that the injured had been taken to the provincial hospital.

Authorities said the truck had been carrying wooden planks from a shop in Stung Treng province to an unknown location.

Vann Vet, Svay Chreah commune chief, said he had heard from an eyewitness that when the vehicle overturned, the wooden planks fell on top of some of the passengers, crushing them.

In a separate accident involving a goods truck, one man was killed and more than 20 others injured when the truck carrying supplies to a wedding overturned on National Road 76 in Mondolkiri’s Sen Monorom City on Monday.

“The truck was full of wedding supplies and more than 20 people were seated on top of it,” said Ngin Sophoeun, provincial deputy traffic police chief.

“The driver was driving too fast up a hill when the truck overturned,” Mr. Sophoeun said. “The driver has escaped and is on the run.”
