The son of a high-ranking customs official suspected in a nightclub shooting that left one man injured was questioned at the Phnom Penh Municipal Court on Monday but has yet to be charged, officials said.
Keo Vitou, 24, the son of Finance Ministry customs official Keo Sokheang, is one of three men in a group suspected of firing off several rounds at the Rock nightclub in the early hours of Sunday morning before driving away.
A Lexus SUV and an AK-47 were seized from Mr. Sokheang’s home later that day.
On Monday, Mr. Sokheang—who runs the mobile inspection unit of the Finance Ministry’s customs and excise department—brought his son to the municipal police station, said Eng Sorphea, the city’s penal police chief.
“Keo Vitou was brought by his father, Mr. Sokheang, to our police station to confess,” Mr. Sorphea said, adding that the son was then passed on to the municipal court.
Court prosecutor Vong Bunvisoth said he questioned Mr. Vitou but had not yet decided whether to lay any charges.
“We haven’t finished our questioning yet. We will continue the questioning tomorrow,” he said.
