Lowell High School duo named recipients of Tsongas Scholarship

Lowell – Lowell High School recently awarded two graduating seniors with the Tsongas Scholarship, named for the late Paul Tsongas, who served as a Lowell city councilor and a U.S. senator. The recipients are Monineth Hang and Colin Martin.

Monineth Hang, born in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, is the daughter of Vanny Hang and Thavy Uy. She immigrated to the U.S. with her father in the eighth grade for better schooling options, and discovered a passion for the fields of math and science. Despite not knowing the English language, Monineth transitioned out of the English Learners Program after two years. Monineth will be the first generation in her family to attend college, alongside her brother, who attends UMass Lowell.
