The bodies of two men who went missing on Friday after their Water Festival boat collided with a cruise ship carrying Vietnamese tourists have been found, police said.
Sok Chanchesda, 18, and Chhoeun Chon, 36, were on the Tonle Sap river as members of the Reasmey Sreysros Danh Tep Senchey boat, which was carrying nine people from Chbar Ampov district, when a ship owned by Cruiseco Line struck and sank their vessel.
Originally declared missing, the two men’s bodies were found hours apart on Sunday morning in Kandal province, said Chao Vuthy, deputy chief of the Kandal provincial polices serious crime bureau.
Sok Chanchesda’s body was found in the Bassac river in Lvea Em district, while Chhoeun Chon’s body was recovered in the Mekong River in Sa’ang district, Mr. Vuthy said.
“We told their families and they already came to bring their bodies back for a funeral,” he said.
The deaths mark the first fatalities linked to the Water Festival since 2010, when a stampede left 353 people dead.
