Suspect Arrested Over Throat-Slitting Murders

A suspect believed to have killed two men and seriously injured a woman by slitting their throats while they slept was arrested in Siem Reap province on Wednesday night, police officials said on Thursday.

Duong Sokha, chief of the provincial police’s serious crimes bureau, said the suspect, Chea Sochean, 23, was caught while traveling in a taxi in Chi Kreng district at about 6:20 p.m.

“He admitted to committing the crime, and doing it alone,” Mr. Sokha said, adding that the suspect said he had been staying at the victims’ house, and waited until they fell asleep to attack them.

Mr. Sokha said the victims—Vet Ratha, 25, Khuy Sokhin, 27, and Leng Srey Pov, 17—had persuaded Mr. Sochean through Facebook to work with them at a distribution company, where they said he could earn up to $1,000 a month.

But when they met, the victims told the suspect that he had to pay $1,300 just to start the job.

“He got angry because they wasted his time and he did not have the money to pay,” Mr. Sokha said.

“He took revenge.”
