Man Nabbed for Attempted Rape of 15-Year-Old Cousin

Police arrested a 42-year-old welder on Tuesday for the attempted rape of his 15-year-old cousin in Kandal province’s Sa’ang district, police said.

The girl was asleep and home alone at 3:10 a.m. in Svay Ralum commune when Tuy Meng used a screwdriver to enter the house after opening a section of its aluminum wall, according to a report by district police.

“Then the suspect jumped on top of the victim and used the screwdriver to stab her neck, which resulted in minor wounds,” the report says.

“The victim shouted for help and the suspect escaped.”

Police arrested Mr. Meng about three hours after Tuesday’s assault and took him to the district police station for questioning.

“Tuy Meng confessed to using a screwdriver to stab the victim because he had drunk a lot of beer and lost his mind,” the report continues.

Say Saravon, a deputy district police chief, said the girl “accused the suspect of attempted rape.”

He said Mr. Meng was being provisionally detained at the district police headquarters and would be sent to the provincial court today.
