Police in Phnom Penh have arrested a man over the rape of his 9-year-old daughter, less than two weeks after another father was arrested for the same crime in Prey Veng province.
Hin Sam Ath, 34, was arrested near his Russei Keo district home on Friday, a day after his wife reported him to authorities, Phnom Penh penal police chief Eng Sorphea said on Sunday.
“We arrested Hin Sam Ath after his wife complained at our penal police station, after her husband raped his underage daughter,” he said.
Mr. Sorphea said the wife saw her husband attempting to rape their daughter on the morning of March 14 and did not know why she waited another three days to approach police.
After his arrest, the father confessed to raping his daughter on the night of the 13th, Mr. Sorphea said, adding that the man would be sent to court today.
In Prey Veng, a man was arrested on March 5 for raping his 14-year-old daughter and also confessed under questioning.
The Interior Ministry reported a 12 percent increase in rape cases in 2015 compared to the previous year.
