Karaoke Worker Found Strangled to Death

A 25-year-old karaoke worker was found naked and strangled to death on Saturday morning in a guesthouse in Tbong Khmum province, where she had been living for the past three months, officials said on Sunday.

Sem Sokhom was discovered at about 6 a.m. at a guesthouse in Ponhea Krek district when another guest walked past the open door to her bedroom, said deputy provincial police chief Prak Bun Non.

After seeing the body on the floor, the woman immediately told the owner, who reported the crime to police, he said.

According to provincial police chief Mao Pov, the victim’s mouth had been stuffed with a dense cake and bruising was found around her neck.

“Police officials don’t have enough evidence to explain the murder and are searching for the perpetrator,” he said.

Currently, the main suspect is an unidentified man that the owner said had arrived at about 11 p.m. the night before and asked for a room to stay in, but had left by the time Sem Sokhom was discovered, Mr. Bun Non said.
