Prince Chakrapong Fired from F’pec, Senate

Prince Chakrapong Fired from F’pec, SenateFuncinpec President Keo Puth Rasmey has fired Prince Norodom Chakrapong from both his senator position and the party, Funcinpec spokesman Nouv Sovathero said Wednesday.

Prince Chakrapong was dismissed for opposing the Funcinpec extraordinary congress that ousted Prince Norodom Ranariddh from the party presidency on Oct 18, Nouv Sovathero said.

“Prince Chakrapong met with Prince [Sisowath] Thomico to form an alliance. He has created a reactionary movement,” Nouv Sovathero said.

Prince Ranariddh’s public affairs adviser Ok Socheat denied that Prince Chakrapong has joined the political alliance formed by Prince Ranariddh and Prince Thomico to compete in the 2008 national elections. “[Prince Chakrapong] was not against the Funcinpec party.

“It was unjust to fire him,” he said.

Prince Chakrapong was reportedly in Malaysia on Thursday with Prince Ranariddh and could not be reached for comment.
