Phnom Penh’s recreation scene is set to get a boost, as two new sport and game centers prepare to open soon.
Both will offer bowling and snooker, and one will have a wide variety of facilities, including a pool and health club.
Opening Sunday is the Taiwanese-owned Phnom Penh Bowling Center. Located on Street 298 near Monivong Boulevard, the center has 22 bowling lanes with computerized scoring and overhead video screens, as well as 10 snooker tables.
“We think there is enough interest in bowling for another alley,” said manager Lo Ming Chang.
Construction is not complete on the mammoth building, and a cafe or video games may fill a space near the lanes, he said.
The second fitness and game facility is being built by the owners of Superbowl, who opened Cambodia’s first bowling alley in 1996 on the top floor of the Hong Kong Center.
The owners plan to open a 10,000 square-meter club in July, following the national elections, said a spokeswoman for Kenford Development Pte Ltd Singapore.
The five-story center, across from the Chinese Embassy on Mao Tse Tung Boulevard, will house several dozen bowling alleys, a beer garden, restaurants, massage and fitness facilities, a pool, hotel and two parking lots for 300 vehicles.
Kenford is considering moving the 12-lane bowling facilities from the Hong Kong Center to the as-yet-unnamed new club, she said.
