Teen Charged, Jailed for 2014 Rape of 8-Year-Old Girl

An 18-year-old man was jailed on aggravated rape charges in Kandal province on Thursday for sexually assaulting his young neighbor on two occasions in 2014, police said.

According to a police report supplied by Sa’sang district police, Sina Tienlen first raped the girl at his house in the district’s Sa’ang Phnom commune after inviting the girl over to watch television when she was 8 years old.

“While she was lying down on a piece of wood, Tienlen stripped her pants down to her thighs and started touching her genitals” and proceeded to rape her, the report says.

“She screamed, ‘It hurts,’ so he stopped and she went back to her house.”

Exactly one week later, Mr. Tienlen raped the girl again while she was fetching water at a pond about 100 meters south of their village, it says.

Commune police chief Aut Phirun said on Wednesday that Mr. Tienlen recently attempted to rape the girl again, which led to the girl’s mother finding out about the earlier attacks.

The mother reported the case to local police, who arrested Mr. Tienlen at his house on Tuesday, Mr. Phirun said.

According to deputy provincial police chief Roeun Nara, the suspect was charged with rape of a minor at the Kandal Provincial Court on Thursday and sent to prison to await trial.
