A 38-year-old businessman was charged with murder on Saturday for running over his wife with his truck after she caught him on an outing with another woman in Banteay Meanchey province’s Serei Saophoan City, a police official said on Sunday.
On Thursday evening, Meas Sary, 30, went shopping at the MT Night Market in Preah Ponlea commune when she saw her husband’s black Nissan Navara parked outside, police said.
Inside the vehicle, her husband, Sao Sim, and a woman identified only as “Mom” were “having a good time,” according to police, who said Meas Sary attempted to get into the vehicle and briefly grappled with the other woman after Mr. Sim opened his door.
Eventually, he reversed his truck, ramming his wife, who died from her injuries before reaching the city referral hospital, police said.
Deputy provincial police chief Tep Savandara said Mr. Sim, who owns a small construction firm, was charged with murder on Saturday and sent to prison on Sunday.
“This is a red-handed crime,” he said. “We questioned him, and he claimed to have no intention to kill his wife. He blamed his wife for kicking him. He felt panicked and then reversed his truck as his wife tried to grab the vehicle.”
