A man was arrested in Takeo province on Tuesday night after murdering his wife in a drunken rage earlier in the evening, police said on Wednesday.
Vet Sak, 36, a farmer and construction worker with a history of alcoholism and domestic abuse, attacked his wife, Mos Sdeung, 30, at their house in Kiri Vong district’s Kiri Chung Koh commune after returning home at about 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, according to deputy provincial police chief Suon Phon.
“He was drunk and he asked for money from his wife to continue to drink,” he said. “But his wife refused, which led to a fight” that quickly turned violent. “He repeatedly punched her in the face and head, and later he stepped on her throat until she died,” Mr. Phon said, adding that the couple’s four young children were present at the time.
Mr. Sak made no attempt to flee the scene and was arrested before midnight, after neighbors who heard the attack contacted commune police, he said.
He was transferred on Wednesday from the district police station to the provincial police headquarters, where he confessed to the crime, and will be sent to the provincial court today, Mr. Phon said.
