The National Election Committee (NEC) has announced it is recruiting more than 150 new staff to work on voter registration, which after multiple delays is set to begin in November ahead of commune elections in June 2017.
“The National Election Committee is recruiting 168 contracted staffs for a short-term period to work for the National Election Committee for voter registration to prepare the new 2016 voter list,” said a statement signed by NEC Chairman Sik Bun Hok and dated Friday.
The statement said 91 of the staff would be assigned to the department for management of voter data and voter lists, 26 to the training and education department and the rest divided among the departments of operations, public relations, legal services and administration.
Applications will open from June 15 to 19.
The new NEC was formed last year in a deal between the CPP and CNRP, who claimed the old NEC rigged the 2013 election.
Amid claims that the CPP had been intentionally stalling the registration process, Prime Minister Hun Sen told officials late last month to hurry up in issuing new identification cards to the remaining 2 million eligible voters without one.
