Two-Year-Old Dies After Being Hit by Fan Blades

A 2-year-old girl was killed on her parent’s farm in Kompong Chhnang province on Monday when she walked into the moving blades of a homemade fan used to blow debris from harvested corn, police said Tuesday.

The child died instantly after being struck in the head by the fan’s wooden blades at about 9 a.m., shortly after the motor had been started on the farm in Kompong Leng district’s Pralay Meas commune, according to commune police chief Chan Soveun.

“We all deeply regret this accident, which was the result of careless parents who did not look after their child well enough,” Mr. Soveun said, identifying the girl’s mother and father as Kong Thy, 29, and Pran Tha, 30, respectively.

“We did not arrest Mr. Tha, but we will invite him to the police station after the child’s funeral,” he said.

“We know that this was an accident, but we still must make a report to our superiors and we don’t know what they are going to do with this case,” he added.
