Three people have been slain in two unrelated incidents in different provinces, police said Sunday.

In the first incident, an elderly couple were killed last Thursday and their house was torched in what appeared to be a robbery in Dang Tong commune, Dang Tong district, Kampot province, Deputy Chief of Judicial Police In Chiva said

Police believe the assailants set fire to the house to destroy evidence, In Chiva said.

Ma Phal, 67, and his wife Neak Soek, 69, had recently sold a plot of land for 900,000 riel (about $230), and Ma Phal had purchased a 17-gram gold necklace for his wife.

Neighbors discovered the bodies after the fire was extinguished, In Chiva said.

In Kompong Thom province on the same day, police said Sam Sorn, a 59-year-old farmer, was sitting at home in Chra Nieng commune, Baray district, when he was stabbed twice in the neck with a knife.

Provincial Police Chief Men Rithy said Sam Sorn’s wife, Kim Soun, walked to the police station after the attack and turned herself in. She is being held in the Kompong Thom provincial jail, he said.

Men Rithy said the couple, who according to neighbors often got drunk and fought, had quarreled Thursday.
