Three Held for Rape; 2 Wanted for Rape-Murder

Three suspects were arrested on Wednesday for gang raping a 19-year-old woman on Tuesday in Pursat province’s Krakor district, police said Thursday.

Bin Vanna, Krakor district police chief, said that police arrested three suspects after the victim’s parents filed a complaint.

The suspects have been identified as So Chea, 22, a motorcycle repairmen, and two of his friends, Kol Tong Ha, 16, and Chan Tola, 22, said Morl Soth, deputy district penal police chief.

Mr. Soth said that on Tuesday, the victim went to meet Mr. Chea, who she was in a relationship with, and he later invited her, along with his two friends, to a guesthouse.

“The first suspect called two of his friends and one by one they raped the victim,” Mr. Soth said.

On Wednesday, Mr. Chea again asked the victim to meet him at a guesthouse, this time in Kompong Luong commune, but her parents followed her and called police.

“We received an order from the prosecutor to raid a guesthouse and arrest the suspects at 8:35 p.m. in one of the rooms,” Mr. Vanna said.

After their arrest, the three admitted to having raped the victim, Mr. Soth said, adding that they would be taken to the provincial court today to be charged.

The victim told police that the three men had threatened her, which is why she did not report the rape.

“They threatened to murder her if she filed a complaint to authorities,” Mr. Soth said.

In a separate case, police on Thursday found the naked body of a 24-year-old woman who they suspect was raped and murdered in Kratie province’s Snuol district.

Chan Sokim, district police chief, said the woman, identified as Tren Sreyoun, sustained a wound to the back of her head.

On Monday, the victim went to a housewarming party where two male friends asked her to come outside to talk, Mr. Sokim said, then they raped and killed her before dumping her body in a nearby farm.

“We know who the two suspects are but they have escaped to a different district,” he said.
