Ringleader Sought After Drug Arrest in Stung Treng

A man was arrested with nearly 14,000 methamphetamine pills and 3 grams of crystal methamphetamine in Stung Treng City on Sunday, military police said.

Say May, 45, was arrested at his home after a two-month investigation, according to Ing Vandy, military police commander of Stung Treng province.

During the arrest, military police confiscated 13,987 pills and 2.973 grams of crystal methamphetamine from the house in Stung Treng commune, Colonel Vandy said, adding that the suspect was just one of many mid-level drug distributors operating in the border province, smuggling methamphetamines down from Laos to Phnom Penh.

“So far this year, military police in Stung Treng have already conducted four drug operations, arresting both Cambodian and Lao citizens,” Col. Vandy said.

“There are many drug smugglers in Stung Treng province and… we are continuing to investigate other people suspected of involvement in drug smuggling.”

He added that military police believe that Mr. May was acting at the behest of a larger-scale drug distributor whom they are also seeking to arrest.
