Police Arrest Suspected Meth Dealers in Battambang

Police arrested three suspected drug dealers in Battambang City on Saturday with nearly 1 kg of crystal methamphetamine that they allegedly purchased in Laos and intended to distribute throughout Battambang province, an official said Sunday.

Chet Vanny, a deputy provincial police chief in charge of anti-drug operations, said the men were apprehended by provincial police at Sar Kheng Park on the riverside at about 6 p.m.

“After arresting them using our special techniques, the suspects told us that they brought the drugs from Laos,” Mr. Vanny said, refusing to elaborate on the circumstances of the arrest or the police investigation.

“Now the police are preparing documents in order to send them to the provincial court as soon as possible, [Monday] at the latest,” he said, adding that the men were being held at the provincial police headquarters.

Mr. Vanny identified the suspects as Lan Dara, 27, from Stung Treng province; Keo Rattanak, 41, from Banteay Meanchey province; and Sieng Sokha, 45, from Phnom Penh.

Mr. Sokha is a mechanic, he said, while the occupations of the other two are unknown.
