Passenger Shoots Moto-Taxi Driver Dead

The body of a 66-year-old moto-taxi driver from Kandal province was found on a dirt road in Takeo province’s Bati district on Tuesday morning with a single bullet wound to the head, in what police said Wednesday was a murder-robbery by a passenger.

The gunman shot Min Sary through the temple, dumped him on the ground and drove away on his 2009 model Honda Dream motorcycle, district police chief Ngann Sary said Wednesday.

The victim’s body was discovered by villagers in Doung commune at about 6 a.m., he said, adding that police arrived soon after. “We examined the body and found a K54 handgun [bullet] shell that was the bullet he was shot dead by,” he said.

Min Sary, who lived in Kandal Stung district in neighboring Kandal province, was last seen picking up an unknown passenger who asked to go to nearby Sa’ang district, Mr. Sary said.

“His family said he picked up a man on Monday night but no one saw him again until we found his body,” he said, adding that police in both provinces are cooperating to identify and arrest the perpetrator.
