One suspected jewelry thief was fatally wounded and another injured Friday morning after being caught by a mob on Mao Tse-tung Boulevard where their motorbike collided with a taxi, Tuol Kok district police said Monday.
A 17-year-old boy identified only as “Sna” died Saturday at Kosamak Hospital after being beaten by witnesses to the robbery, said Hang Borei, deputy district penal police chief.
His accomplice, Tep Ngahg, escaped the mob and sought refuge in a nearby police station, where he confessed to as many as five similar robberies this month, Hang Borei said.
The pair allegedly tore a gold necklace from a woman as they passed her on a motorbike, police said.
The victim’s husband gave chase and yelled for help, quickly drawing a large crowd on the busy street.
