An advocacy group for NGOs in Cambodia joined a growing chorus of calls for Cambodia’s politicians to end the post-election stalemate.
“Members of the NGO community are most concerned by the current political impasse in Cambodia,” Russell Peterson, the representative for NGO Forum on Cambodia, wrote in an open letter to Cambodia’s leaders. “We therefore call on Cambodia’s political leaders to find a solution to the current impasse for the sake of the Cambodian people.”
Peterson also called on Cambodian leaders to “avoid any escalation of the conflict.”
The government should continue to restrain themselves from cracking down on protests and the opposition should avoid “racist comments which could incite violence.” Last week, Asean also called on Cambodia’s politicians to resolve their differences and form the new government. NGO Forum is an organization NGOs working in Cambodia.
