Sen. Risa Hontiveros on Wednesday called on the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) to check on the condition of a group of Filipinos who were rescued by authorities in Cambodia from a Chinese syndicate that allegedly forced them to work in a cryptocurrency scam.
“These fraud factories are part of a disturbing industry that has to be dismantled,” she said. “It is unacceptable that this devastating scheme keeps roping in our hardworking men and women.”
Hontiveros said she was made aware of the situation when one of the rescued Filipinos sought her assistance after the Cambodian police rescued them on Monday night in Phnom Penh.
