Military Police Seize Marijuana, Torch Plants

Military police seized 1.5 kg of marijuana from one grower and torched 25 plants on three other farms in Kandal province’s Kien Svay district on Wednesday, a military police official said Thursday.

Oun Sophat, district military police commander, said a team of about 20 military police led by provincial commander Sam Tola raided the home of Sath Leng early Wednesday morning and discovered 1.5 kg of harvested cannabis inside.

“It is a small amount of marijuana that we seized, but it is prohibited by law,” Mr. Sophat said.

Ms. Leng was released in the evening after agreeing to cease producing the illicit crop, he added.

Following the seizure, the military police found 25 more plants growing between papaya trees on three separate farms in the same village.

“Those marijuana plants were cut and destroyed at 8 a.m…to make an example for other villagers growing it,” Mr. Sophat said.
