An opposition lawmaker has called for National Assembly Secretary-General Leng Penglong to be suspended after he allegedly refused to forward an official parliamentary letter to Prime Minister Hun Sen inquiring into the widespread use of military license plates.
CNRP lawmaker Um Sam An said that a letter he sent to Mr. Hun Sen was approved and signed by National Assembly President Heng Samrin—per parliamentary protocol—on November 14, but that Mr. Penglong instead sent it to Deputy Prime Minister Sok An.
“I submitted the letter to Samdech Prime Minister Hun Sen to ask for clarification in the use of car number plates but Leng Penlong sent it to Mr. Sok An instead,” he said.
“When Mr. Samrin offers his written approval on a letter to be sent to the prime minister, Leng Penglong has no right not to send it to the prime minister on the excuse that it would disturb Samdech [Mr. Hun Sen],” he said.
Mr. Sam An said he has sent another letter to Mr. Samrin asking him to consider suspending Mr. Penglong, who could not be reached for comment.
