A lawyer at the Khmer Rouge tribunal is the latest person to become embroiled in a land dispute in Pur Senchey district between an elderly woman and Prime Minister Hun Sen’s cousin, Dy Proem.
Son Arun, a member of Noun Chea’s defense team, on Tuesday lodged a complaint with the Phnom Penh Municipal Court asking for an injunction to halt construction of concrete fences on the road to his home, which is next to the disputed site.
Huot Sarom, 68, last month lost her decades-long battle to keep a 5.67-hectare plot that she says she has been farming since 1979.
Police and security guards demarcated the property for development by Ms. Proem, who in 2011 was convicted of corruption for attempting to influence an investigation into the dispute.
Liv Sovannana, the lawyer representing Mr. Arun, said that he lodged documents on behalf of his client Tuesday afternoon.
“My client always gets access to his house by this road, [so] if they have blocked it how can he get home?”
