Four Arrested In Heroin Raid

In continuing with the municipality’s initiative to maintain “public order” by stamping out drugs, police arrested four Vietnamese nationals in a narcotics bust on Wednesday in the Boeung Keng Kang II district of Phnom Penh.

Three bags of suspected heroin and drug paraphernalia were seized in the bust, police said.

Ou Vanna, municipal anti-narcotics police chief, said the arrested Vietnamese will go before Municipal Court on charges that they smuggled, sold and used heroin.

Last week, narcotics police arrested six Vietnamese citizens and a Cambodian in a raid in Chamkar Mon. Twenty-five packets of an allegedly narcotic white powder and numerous amphetamine pills were confiscated

Four of the Vietnamese arrested last week remain in jail, while two other Vietnamese and one Cambodian paid fines of 500,000 riel ($131.58 dollars) each and were sent home, investigating judge Kim Sophon said.
