Court Official Suspected in Beer Garden Shooting, Colleagues Say

Shots were fired near a Kampot province beer garden on Tuesday night, and one of the suspects is allegedly a court official, provincial Prosecutor Chum Samban said yesterday. No one was injured in the shooting, but guests at the packed beer garden fled in terror, said Sin Sokhorn, the owner of Dragon karaoke and beer garden in Kampot City.

According to Ms Sokhorn, three people in two cars approached her establishment at about 9:30 pm and fired two bullets in the direction of the restaurant. “Before the shooting, my shop was full of guests,” Ms Sokhorn said.

“The guests ran away. Four tables did not pay, two tables came back to pay me in the morning.” Mr Samban, the prosecutor, said police had identified one of the suspects as Kampot deputy prosecutor intern Khai Samphos, who had been working at the court for about two months.

Police have not yet submitted an official report on the incident, Mr Samban said, adding that he could not investigate without the report.

Ev Tray, a deputy provincial prosecutor, said the court will investigate Mr Samphos once the report is received from police. “We will investigate Mr Khai Samphos once we get the official report.” Mr Samphos could not be reached for comment.
