Court Hears Case of Man Raping 4-Year-Old Girl

The municipal court on Monday heard a case of a 22-year-old man who was charged with sexually assaulting a 4-year-old girl at her school in Phnom Penh.

Tim Sokny, an employee at the school, was arrested after the victim told her parents on February 2, the same day of the alleged incident, that Mr. Sokny took off her clothes at the end of the school day and raped her.

The girl’s parents immediately went to the school, where the victim pointed out the suspect, who was arrested.

Prosecuting lawyer Bun Keo Lim said the victim’s family is demanding $30,000 in compensation and the legal prosecution of the suspect.

Sok Monorum, Mr. Sokny’s lawyer, said that his client denies the charge of indecent assault and is prepared to maintain his innocence in court.

If found guilty of indecent assault on a minor, Mr. Sokny could face a jail term of between two and six years. The court is set to hand down a verdict on April 9.
