Winners of a national competition to promote tourism will get a chance to be foreign visitors themselves—in Bangkok, Singapore or Malaysia, a tourism official said Sunday.
The contest, launched on World Tourism Day last month at the official opening of Banteay Srei temple in Siem Reap, aims to highlight the link between tourism and economic development, said Sou Mara, general director for the Tourism Ministry.
“If tourism collapses, the hotels will close,” Sou Mara said. “One cannot work alone to develop this. It is the duty of all the Cambodian people.”
Competitors had until Oct 10 to give their views on the benefits and liabilities of tourism development. He said the ministry had received more than 2,216 entries. An undetermined number of winners will be announced Nov 1. The competition boasts offers including trips abroad and motorbikes.
