Commune and Village Officials to See Pay Raise

The government will raise the salaries of commune and village officials before January 31, according to a sub-decree dated December 31 and obtained Friday.

The sub-decree, signed by Prime Minister Hun Sen, Interior Minister Sar Kheng and Finance Minister Aun Pornmoniroth, states that commune chiefs’ salaries will increase from $75 to $100 per month, while their deputies will get a $25 raise, taking their salaries from $60 to $85 per month.

Commune-level councilors’ salaries will earn an extra $15, up to $75 per month, while village chiefs’ salaries will double from $20 to $40 per month and their deputies will see an increase from $10 to $35 per month.

Mr. Hun Sen last raised the salaries for low-level officials in July 2013, by between $10 and $37.50 depending on their level of government.
