‘Collaborating closely with Cambodia, rescued 250 Indians’: MEA on forced cyber-slavery report

Over 5,000 Indians are trapped in Cambodia, where they are allegedly being held against their will and forced to carry out cyber frauds on people back home.

Amid reports of over 5,000 Indians being trapped in Cambodia, where they are allegedly forced to carry out cyber frauds, the Ministry of External Affairs Saturday said the government is collaborating closely with the Cambodian authorities and has rescued and repatriated about 250 Indians – 75 in just the last three months.

In an official statement, MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the Indian embassy in Cambodia has been promptly responding to complaints from nationals who were lured with employment opportunities to that country, but were forced to undertake illegal cyber work.

“We have seen media reports on Indian nationals stuck in Cambodia. Our Embassy in Cambodia has been promptly responding to complaints from Indian nationals who were lured with employment opportunities to that country but were forced to undertake illegal cyber work.
