Case 004 Suspect Called to Tribunal, Official Says

Im Chaem, one of three suspects in the government-opposed Case 004 at the Khmer Rouge tribunal, has allegedly been summoned to appear for questioning, according to a district governor in Oddar Meanchey province. Im Chaem, 68, is accused of coordinating purges in the Northwest Zone as a Khmer Rouge cadre in the 1970s.

The investigation against her and fellow suspects Ta Tith and Ta An is being pursued by the tribunal’s International Co-Investigating Judge, Mark Harmon.

“My officials informed that the court has summoned her for questioning on a Monday, but I don’t know the exact date, whether it is today or Monday next week, since I haven’t seen the warrant issued by the court,” said Anlong Veng district Governor Yim Phanna.

Long Panhavuth, a court monitor with the Cambodia Justice Initiative, said the tribunal has summoned Im Chaem three times now.

“We have to see if the Order to Bring is issued,” he said.

An Order to Bring is issued to judicial police officials in the event that a summons is ignored.
