Prime Minister Hun Sen has raised the prospect of Cambodia again accepting refugees destined for Australia after a previous controversial deal expired, government-friendly media reports say.
Eat Sophea, Secretary of State with the Foreign Ministry, said the prospect was floated at a meeting between Hun Sen and outgoing Australian ambassador Angela Corcoran earlier this week.
“During a meeting with outgoing Australian Ambassador (Angela Corcoran), Prime Minister Hun Sen said Cambodia is willing to continue the agreement,” he told the Khmer Times. “The co-operation between governments may have ended, but we have co-operation between immigration departments,” he said.
