Booby Trap Injures Five In Kampot

Five people were injured Sunday when a grenade exploded in a crowded market in Kampot province, police said Tuesday.

The grenade, which was concealed in a booby-trapped bag, exploded in a clock shop in the provincial capital of Kampot, police and witnesses said. The bag had been left at the shop 15 minutes before the blast by an unidentified man who then left the scene, police said.

Seng Eng Ma, a vendor at the market, said the bomb went off at about 8 am, leaving the market in turmoil. Five victims, including two children, suffered minor injuries, Deputy Military Police Chief Teng Chhun said.

The case is still under investigation, however police believe the perpetrator was a rival businessman out for revenge, Teng Chhun said. The suspect is still at large, he said.
