Banteay Meanchey Officials Send Report on Border Death

Banteay Meanchey province officials have sent a report on an incident at Cambodia’s border with Thailand, in which Thai border police were accused of killing a Cambodian, to the Ministry of Interior, said an official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The official could not elaborate on the content of the report, but said it differs from a Thai report on the same incident, which states there was no shooting. Ministry of Interior officials declined to comment on the report and officials at the Thai embassy said they consider the matter closed.

On Nov 1, 18 Cambodians were illegally entering Thailand near Thmar Pouk district when one of them stepped on a land mine. Two Cambodians were reported to have been killed by the land mine, while one survived. The surviving Cambodian was shot by Thai border police after they converged on the scene, said two witnesses in Thmar Pouk.
