Alleged Pedophile Asked to Identify Confiscated Articles

A French national being held in Sihanoukville on charges of having sex with young boys was brought back to court last Friday and asked to identify items police confiscated from his possession.

Pierre Ginot, 44, was shown two cameras, a computer with an Internet connection, 182 video compact discs and a handgun, along with some bullets.

Sihanoukville judicial police chief So Bun Noeun said Tuesday that the Ministry of Interior had sent an Australian computer expert to download files in the search for evidence.

Ginot, who has a go-kart business in Sihanoukville’s Mittapheap district, was arrested May 31.

He has also been charged with illegally detaining people and possessing weapons.

A French Embassy employee said Tuesday that Ginot can receive consular services if he seeks them, but that the case is in the hands of Cambodian authorities.

The employee said Ginot had a heart transplant operation in 1996 in Nantes, France, and takes daily medication to guard against infectious diseases.
