One man was sentenced and four others have been arraigned over the last week in five separate cases of child rape, police and victims’ representatives said Monday.
Sun Channy, 39, was sentenced to 16 years in prison on Monday by Pursat Provincial Court and was ordered to pay $750 in compensation to his 16-year-old stepdaughter for repeatedly raping her since she was 10, said Hong Chansokha, a lawyer from the NGO Protection of Juvenile Justice. He added that the victim had given birth to a child last year fathered by her stepfather.
Also in Pursat province, two men were arraigned last week, accused of raping minors, said Ngeth Theavy, coordinator of women’s affairs for the NGO Adhoc.
Tuy Sokha, 25, was arrested April 12 for the rape of a 9-year-old girl near her Sre Knong commune, Kandieng district home, Ngeth Theavy said.
She said that another man, 18-year-old Pem Phany, was arrested April 18 in connection with the rape of a 14-year-old girl in the same district. “Both rapists confessed to the crimes,” she said.
In an unrelated case, Ly Sokha, 24, was arraigned at Prey Veng provincial court on Friday following his arrest two days earlier for the rape and mugging of a 13-year-old girl in Preah Sdach district’s Rumchek commune, Deputy provincial police Chief Ros Vanna said Monday.
“The victim was raped on April 11 while she was playing alone. Then she was beaten [in order to rob her] jewelry,” Ros Vanna said.
Separately, in Takeo province, police arrested Kim Vimoth, 18, for the rape a 5-year-old girl in Prey Kabbas district’s Snor commune, provincial police Chief Vuth Phally said Monday.
“The victim’s father arrived on time while the rapist was laying on top of his daughter,” he said, adding that Kim Vimoth had already confessed to the crime.
