Man Arrested for Knifing Woman and Her Daughter

Police in Pailin City on Sunday arrested a man suspected of attacking a mother and her young daughter with a knife inside their home in Boyakha commune on Friday.

Pailin City police chief Lim Veasna said the man entered the house just after midnight on Friday and then slashed at the woman and her daughter as they slept.

“The mother, Teav Sokly, 29, and her t3-year-old daughter were cut on the head many times,” Mr. Veasna said.

“We are investigating the case and up to now, we still do not have motive for the attack yet.”

Commune police chief Chhor Manh identified the suspect as 21-year-old Moeun May, who he said slashed Ms. Sokly seven times and her daughter three times.

“We arrested one suspect because he seemed to be involved and could not answer our questions properly,” Mr. Manh said.

Chea Doeun, deputy Boyakha commune chief, said a bloody T-shirt had led police to the suspect, but that he did not know where the shirt was found.

“The police collected the T-shirt of the perpetrator and asked villagers [about it], but no one dared say anything,” Mr. Doeun said, adding that the victims were being treated for their injuries at the provincial referral hospital.
