CNRP lawmaker and former Prime Minister Pen Sovann on Thursday returned to Cambodia from Singapore, where he was treated for a stroke he suffered last month, opposition spokesman Yim Sovann said.
The spokesman said the former prime minister, who is now paralyzed on his right side, is receiving further care in Cambodia.
“He returned to Cambodia this morning and he went to a private hospital to continue his treatment, and in maybe one week, he will go to his home,” he said. “We could save his life, but he still cannot walk, and he’s still sleeping.”
Separately, CPP President Chea Sim, who suffered a stroke in 2000, will return to Cambodia today from a checkup in Vietnam, his chief bodyguard said.
“He is better and he will be back tomorrow,” Yim Leang said Thursday.
Mr. Sim’s illness caused both him and Interior Minister Sar Kheng—who left “to look after” the CPP president, according to Information Minister Khieu Kanharith—to miss last weekend’s CPP party congress.
