Three men in their twenties were killed in Kandal province on Wednesday evening when the motorbikes they were traveling on, one speeding at 80 kilometers per hour, collided head-on in Koh Thom district’s Chrey Thom commune, police said.
The accident occurred at 6:10 p.m., between one bike traveling to and another traveling from Takhmao City, provincial police chief Iv Chamroeun said, adding that Hou Sitha, 20, and Ken Khon, 26, died instantly, while 25-year-old Khon Noeun died en route to a Phnom Penh hospital.
“The accident was a result of speeding at nighttime,” he said, adding that according to a witness, the bikes collided when one pulled out into the opposite lane to overtake a car.
The Ministry of Justice is currently reviewing a long-awaited traffic law that advocates hope will cut down on road accidents and deaths.
