A Sam Rainsy Party commune candidate claims he was kicked and punched unconscious by police officers upset by his candidacy.
Sok Kry of Sou Sdei commune in Svay Rieng province said a feud within his family led police to visit his nephew’s house. After he advised his nephew to go with police, one officer said to Sok Kry: “You are the Sam Rainsy Party member,” and started beating him, Sok Kry said.
He had extensive bruises on his ribs, a doctor who attended him said. Sok Kry said he would not withdraw his candidacy.
Sorth Nordy, deputy police chief of Svay Rieng province, said he had not received a complaint.
