Cambodian monk expelled for attending march honoring activist.

A Buddhist monastery in Cambodia has expelled a monk after he joined a peaceful march marking the assassination anniversary of political commentator and rights defender Kem Ley.

Wat Damrei Sorwas monastery in Battambang dismissed Venerable Sang Rithy on July 15, said a statement of the Cambodian League for the Promotion and Defense of Human Rights (LICADHO) on July 16.

The decision came days after Rithy, with other monks and youth activists, participated in a July 10 rally commemorating the eighth anniversary of Ley’s assassination.
