Police Raid Nets 18 Vietnamese Females

Police in the Prampi Makara district of Phnom Penh arrested 18 Vietnamese females Wednesday who they claim entered Cambodia illegally to work in the country’s thriving sex trade.

The women, ranging in age from 17 to 20 years old, were found following a lunch-time raid on a house in Monorom commune, Prambi Makara district, Yim Symony, district police chief, said Thursday. “Now they are in the police custody and are being interviewed,” said Yim Symony.  Phnom Penh Governor Chea Sophara said Wednesday that foreigners who enter Cambodia without proper travel documents should be prosecuted in court.

“We must do by the law and send to court or [illegal immigrants] will keep coming to Cambodia,” Chea Sophara said.
