Hello, Friends and Readers,
We’ve postponed this announcement for as long as possible. It’s been seven years since The Cambodia Daily closed its Phnom Penh offices and stopped publishing an English print edition, and more than five years since we launched The Cambodia Daily Khmer — an online platform dedicated to Khmer-language speakers.
Nearly all of our independent reporting is in Khmer.
Independent Cambodian voices are now more essential than ever. The government has launched a full-scale campaign to silence what’s left of the Kingdom’s free press. It’s arresting journalists and using draconian new laws to intimidate independent media.
Local reporting takes tremendous effort and resources. The Cambodia Daily requires an annual budget of $100,000 to pay reporters, photographers, editors and web hosting fees.
Faced with a substantial annual shortfall, we are left with little choice but to ask you, our dedicated readers and supporters, for help. Please consider giving. The Daily reaches more than 2.2 million viewers every month. A donation of just a few dollars can quickly add up.
