NagaWorld has once again been rebuked for intruding into public space as it expands its casino in the center of Phnom Penh.
In a statement issued by City Hall yesterday the company was ordered to remove an awning it is constructing over the sidewalk facing Hun Sen Park, a directive reinforced in comments made by Chea Sophara, the minister of land management, urban planning and construction.
“Naga’s construction dares to protrude onto the public street; knock it down, don’t let it be there,” Mr. Sophara wrote on his Facebook page yesterday.
In his post, the minister told the company to obey national construction regulations and international safety standards.
He declined to comment on the issue when contacted by a reporter.
The statement from City Hall also orders NagaWorld to remove a low concrete bank on the outer edge of the sidewalk and warns it not to intrude onto the public walkway with flagpoles or other objects in the future.
